If it did, it would make all such rescue media pretty much useless. It does not prevent booting any WinPE-based rescue build on a UFD or other USB-connected external drive. Microsoft's boot restriction applies only to booting the full Windows* operating system. The statement that "Windows cannot boot from a USB connected drive" is correct within the context of "clon your system disk to a USB connected external drive." However, OS drive cloning is entirely different and distinct from creating and using WinPE-based Reflect rescue media. Personally, I regard the exclusionary way in which Macrium has implemented that first option to override the user's own selections as very stupid and dangerous and I've said so since first using Reflect v5, but obviously they don't agree. Be assured that you're not the only one who finds that issue confusing. If you have any data partitions ("D:", "E:", etc.) that you want to include in your backups, you definitely need to use that second option, even if they're located on the same physical drive as the OS ("C:") partition. The second " Image selected disks on this computer" option allows the user to select whatever individual partitions and/or entire drives are wanted for inclusion in the backup operation and creates a backup image in accordance with those user selections. It acts as an exclusionary override if any other partitions (whether on the same drive or any other drive) have been selected in the user interface screen.
